Welcome to Daybreak Rabbitry #X544!

About Us

Hi!

My name is Mara Scott, I am 18 years old, and I have been breeding and raising rabbits for eight years now.  I am an very involved and active member in the Elkhart County 4-H Rabbit Club and am a registered ARBA member.  I currently own and operate Daybreak Rabbitry, registered #X544.  I raise the rare and beautiful breed of Cinnamons, as well as Havanas in black, chocolate, and broken.  On the side, a raise a few Britannia Petites in black otter and chestnut.  I am also currently working with a Satin breeder to create the Cinnamon variety of the Satin breed.

I have raised Havanas for seven years, and Cinnamons for five, with the Brits being my newest acquistion in 2008.  In 2006 I purchased and started breeding broken black and chocolate Havanas.   During a severe bout of snuffles in the spring of 2007 in which half of my herd was lost, my Havanas were hit particularly hard.  There were many breeding and quality complications, and I thereby switched my focus to the Cinnamons, which were literally booming.  They are now my main focus, as well as the Cinnamon Satin Project.

In 2007, my brother joined Rabbit Club and started out with the Cinnamons for a year.  He later decided that he did not want to continue with them as his main breed, and is currently breeding black and sable Silver Martens.  He is not an owner or part of Daybreak Rabbitry, but uses the same facilities.  (Please note that Daybreak Rabbitry's prefix is "Scott's", while Andrew Scott has the prefix "A. Scott's.")

Over the years, I have had many turns with several breed besides my current three.  I have worked with and/or raised Californians, New Zealands in red and white, Blanc de Hotots, and even had a 2-year stint with cavies.  Through my wide-ranging interest in rabbits, I have learned so much, even earning the 5-time title of Grand Champion Rabbit Ambassador winner in my division.  Last year I was 4th in the state of Indiana at the State 4-H Fair for Rabbit Ambassador.  For those who may not know, Rabbit Ambassador is an all-encompassing contest which tests all aspects of rabbits - showmanship, knowledge, resume, and Breed ID.  Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in anything for sale, or just want info on rabbits or cavies.  I update often.  Thanks for visiting!
